There are lots of wheels in the Kankoun family’s courtyard – 13 of them! Basel and the four boys have had bikes for some time, but Hanaa has only just become a bikie. Well actually, as the proud owner of a tricycle, she’s a trikie.
Not only are her wheels providing more independence, but as a family the Kankouns can now travel to local venues and events together without having to ask the members of their CSG for help.
More wheels will be coming their way in the future, as the family is saving hard to buy a car. Basel was excited to pass his driver’s knowledge test a few weeks ago, on the first attempt. That was also the day he drove a car for the first time.
Andrew Brisbane from Get Smart Driver Training has been kindly donating his services, with a lesson each week.
In the coming months, Basel will be working hard on his driving skills and English, so that he can get his P-plates. And in the meantime, if you see a family of six whizzing by in Ballina, that will be the Kankoun bikies and trikie.
