Fatima is a young Hazara woman who has an opportunity to escape Taliban persecution in Afghanistan, but she needs your help.
A farmer born in the ancient city of Bamyan, Afghanistan, Fatima grew up in an environment rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. More recently, her life has been plagued by the oppressive Taliban regime.
Fatima used to be involved with running a school for street kids, focusing on girls who are no longer allowed to attend school. She is dedicated to her community, learning permaculture practices and techniques in growing food and re-greening war devastated agricultural land.
Nowadays, however, Fatima is restricted to her home where she engages in textile making, embroidery and sewing dresses – activities which are common for Afghan women due to Taliban restrictions on women’s activities.
Recently she was offered a once-in-a-lifetime scholarship at an ecology college on the island of St Vincent, a world class institution which specialises in international students, especially those from troubled countries.
